JENNI ALLEN ART Dances on Canvas

My work is rooted in movement, rhythm, repetition, and emotional memory. As a lifelong dancer and choreographer, I experience the world through patterns, counts, and repeated motion. When I paint, I translate that language onto canvas; each square like a dancer, each grid a stage filled with energy and flow.

I am deeply inspired by the way color and repetition can hold feeling. Certain palettes pulse with joy, others carry tension, sorrow, or release. My hope is that when someone stands in front of my work, the rhythm of it reaches them before the logic does; like something felt deep in the body before it’s understood in the mind.

I want my paintings to trigger emotional memory the way a pattern, color combination, or visual beat can instantly take you back to a moment: a childhood room, a performance, a season of life, a feeling you thought you’d forgotten. Happy, aching, angry, peaceful; all emotions are welcome in my work.

Painting is my choreography on canvas, where movement lives without a body, and shared human experience is expressed through color, pattern, and rhythm.

After 2 spinal surgeries, repetition became healing for me. In dance, life and painting. My work is really about resilience and the way color can awaken emotional memory.
